Chania Art Festival

I was driven to paint this composition after immersing myself in both contemporary art and the old masters during a trip to Europe in 2005.

To begin with, the tension of these artistic opposites was so strong that I wasn't sure how to integrate them within a single piece; but once I was able to tap into my unconscious,it was possible to resolve that tension with inspired brushstrokes.

Initially, the jurying committee chose other pieces of mine for the Chania Art Festival, but I felt so strongly about the power of this triptych that I lobbied for and won the right to show it. I thought the name of the painting, ”Everything and More” was especially appropriate for this 2006 Chania Art Festival, which was dedicated to the cause of peaceful coexistence between different cultures,

My long held dream was realized when I showed my work in Chania, on the Greek island of Crete, as Greece was the birthplace of modern civilization and classic art. The event is recognized as a venue for new and well-known artists from every continent, and visitors are treated to a wide range of styles which are thought provoking and arrestingly beautiful.
